Notes from the Field: ARC Energy Investment Forum 2018
Earlier this month we had the chance to be part of the ARC Energy Institute Investment Forum 2018: Playing To Win. This outstanding event was spearheaded and hosted by economists Peter Tertzakian and Jackie Forrest of the ARC Energy Institute.
Featuring a wide range of speakers from Shell to Google, lively panels and an event true to its sports theme (replete with a locker room and sports-themed attire from the hosts that would make Don Cherry proud!), the day also included an Energy Showcase hosted by Calgary Economic Development. The Energy Showcase was essentially an exhibition for displaying companies with innovative offerings for the energy sector, including Guild One, Veerum and Canvass Analytics, among others.
We were thrilled to be part of the Team and Culture Panel. 321’s Jana Taylor joined Jacqui McFarland of Stantec Design and Peter Tertzakian to talk about the people aspect of Playing to Win. We talked team, workspace, the shift to an agile organization (both in terms of mindset and people management), attracting and motivating talent and cultivating innovation.
After our session, we opened our minds to hear about the changing technology, regulatory and investment outlook impacting innovation in the energy sector. It was invigorating.
And, since we’re all about startups at 321, a fan favorite aspect of the day, was, of course, checking out the Energy Showcase and hearing from innovators in the space.
All in all, an incredibly well-orchestrated event with insightful ideas and a focus on innovation in the energy sector. Well played!
